About This Site

This Web Site was designed and created for a course entitled "Internet: Tools and Techniques" at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks Downtown Center, under the tutelage of Sherrie L. Roberts at fsslr4@uaf.edu, the assigned instructor for this course. Each student was requested to design and create a Web Site for a business entity if possible of at least five pages incorporating all or as many of the techniques of web site construction learned in class. At the time of my designing and creating this site, I was a volunteer for Ice Alaska, living at the Ice Park and assisting in its management as much as possible. Many of my experiences as a United Sates Marine, particularly that of serving as a Sergeant Major of Marines assisted me in my volunteer work with Ice Alaska and in designing and creating this page.

I found Ice Alaska during one of my many walks about Fairbanks during the Winter of 2006/2007 and became a volunteer upon the request of Hoa Brickley iceart@icealaska.com its business manager. I was thoroughly engrossed with something so fantastic and so beautiful in its concept and in its development as a World Class Ice Event. It was an engrossing experience as I never knew that people actually grew and harvested ice, much less carved 10 to 25 foot statues of almost anything imaginable from ice blocks 5 feet wide, 4 feet long and 6 feet tall (all from ice grown and harvested at the Ice Park) until I explored the facilities at the Ice Park and talked with many of its volunteers and sculptors.

As I wanted everyone to know of the beauty and the joy of observing the ice carving events, I first wrote of my experiences for various classes at the University and then decided to use Ice Alaska as my first Web Site creation. During the design and creation of this site I had to leave my UAF class prior to completion for medical and dental reasons and needed a little assistance when I could become involved with it again. On my request, a talented young woman by the name of Heather Taggard at www.49designs.com, agreed to assist me in completing my website requirements and posting it to the internet. And here it is: MY ICE ALASKA WEB SITE. I have enjoyed doing this and having the experience of working with some very knowledgeable and wonderful people in the process.
